The number of transfers reached a new high in the mid-year transfer window of 2025, increasing by more than 10% compared to the mid-year window of 2024. Clubs from UEFA completed about the same number of incoming and outgoing transfers, whereas those from the CONMEBOL region released more players than they engaged.

International transfers during the mid-year transfer window

In 2025, and for the first time ever, spending on transfer fees reached more than USD 9.7 billion during the mid-year transfer window, representing an increase of more than 50% compared to the same period in 2024. Clubs in CONMEBOL received more than twice the amount for outgoing transfers than they spent on incoming transfers.

Top five partner associations during the 2025 mid-year transfer window

Clubs agreed to include a transfer fee in roughly 20% of all completed transfers, with the average transfer fee lying in the range of USD 3.8 to USD 4 million. These figures vary considerably across the globe: the highest share of incoming transfers with fees was completed by clubs in UEFA with more than 25%, which also involved the highest average transfer fees.

The global average age of players who transfer during the mid-year transfer window has remained relatively stable over the years at about 24.5 years, but there are considerable differences between the individual confederations and FIFA Member Associations.

Although they typically only make up around 20% of the total number of transfers, permanent transfers with a transfer agreement between the player’s new and former clubs typically dominate the media’s attention. The majority of transfers involve out-of-contract players joining a new club abroad. The remaining transfers are made up of players moving internationally in the context of loan agreements.
